SUZANNE SOMERS DIET PLAN
What
is The Somersizing Diet? WHAT IS SUZANNE SOMERS' SOMERSIZING DIET?Imagine a life where eating food considered by many to be taboo such as red meat, eggs, cheese and butter, is normal. Also imagine being able to eat almost any vegetable or fruit. If you can imagine this, you may be a candidate for Somersizing. I started Somersizing on September 26, 2001. In four months, I dropped from 291 pounds to 231. While my weight loss in such a short period is not typical of your average somersizer, there are lots more women out there that have dropped as much weight if not more than I. During that time, my blood pressure has also dropped from a rather high 140/100 to 120/80. While this is a bit higher than I like, I am definitely headed in the right direction. The greatest woman I know, my mother, introduced me to Somersizing. She knew I was desperate to lose a lot of weight before becoming pregnant again. My goal was to lose 60 pounds by the end of February 2002. I was seriously considering taking an appetite suppressant to help me in this endeavor. But that would mean no more nursing my 8-month-old daughter. My mom ordered "Eat, Cheat and Melt the Fat Away" for me online. It includes a forward by Dr. Diana Schwarzbein who runs a diabetes clinic in Santa Barbara with some very interesting information about the kind of eating habits she advocates for her patients. I read it the minute I got it and started this exciting way of life 2 days later. Since then, I have given up eating things that are considered normal in today's society such as white flour, sugar and starchy vegetables. After reading Suzanne's book, I understood what my problem was. I am highly insulin resistant. My body has a very difficult time processing foods eaten in the wrong combinations. I realized that I had eaten foods in the wrong combinations my entire life. That is one of the main principles behind Somersizing. You combine your foods in the centuries old traditions of the French. It may surprise some people to know that according to a study conducted by the British Heart Foundation, the French have consistently had one of the lowest rates of heart disease dating back to 1968. On the other hand, Americans have almost the highest. Rates of obesity in the United States are also among the highest in the world. In my quest for more information as to why this is, I stumbled across a rather frightening statistic. Americans spend approximately $34 billion each year on diet services and products. The only money I have spent above and beyond what I would normally pay for groceries is for the books I have by Suzanne. It was not necessary for me to purchase the extra book I have but I wanted the recipes! I have also received her dessert book as a gift. That's right, you can still eat dessert. I purchase Suzanne's products called SomerSweet to make these desserts simply because, in my opinion, it tastes better than other sugar substitutes. It is also practically 100% natural. It is part of the fructose family of sugars and causes no insulin response. I enjoy crème brulee, brownies, chocolate mousse and other wonderful desserts under this way of life. In short, this way of life has changed my perspective of food. I no longer fear eating. For a woman who has battled weight her entire teenage and adult life, it is incredibly liberating. I have introduced the plan to many of my co-workers through a series of lunches. In addition to providing an entire somersized meal including dessert, I discuss the plan and pass out some of the wonderful recipes I have made. One of my co-workers has battled high cholesterol her entire adult life. Well, I'm pleased to report that at her last checkup, her total cholesterol had gone down from over 300 to below 200. Her doctor is amazed. I would highly encourage those who are interested in this way of life to visit Suzanne's website at www.suzannesomers.com and to take a look in the discussion boards. There are lots of other somersizers out there with similar cholesterol tales. There is also a great support network of fellow somersizers there. We all care about what happens to each other. There are always various challenges going on such as the walking challenge and the "eat your veggies" challenge. We even have support group meetings in some cities. I am part of the Vegas Somersizers group. We get together for walks, a meal and discussion. For the skeptics out there (and I know you are there), I will address the most common comment I get, "when you go off this diet, you're just going to gain it all back." Well, that is what is different about somersizing. It is not a diet but a way of life. I will eat this way FOREVER! For those of you that undertake the plan, you will perhaps understand why.
